Minister of Defence of Georgia Tinatin Khidasheli met with H.E. Jos Douma, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Georgia.
At the meeting the sides discussed the bilateral cooperation issues between Georgia and the Kingdom of Netherlands, importance of strengthening existing cooperation and future plans.
Tinatin Khidasheli declared that important projects are implemented in the bilateral cooperation format and added that Holland will assist Georgia in aviation reforms. “We had several meetings with the Defence Minister of Holland within the frames Defence Ministerial and a week ago in London. They expressed readiness to take part in implementation of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package. Holland is one of the countries, that has been refraining from participation in the project but we can loudly say and the Ambassador confirmed today that the Kingdom of Netherlands will assist us in aviation reforms – in strengthening the aviation component in NATO-Georgia Substantial Package. This was a working visit to specify some technical details – how, in what format and what kind of team will join the project. Last week we had the French Team who supervises the air defence direction and soon we’ll receive the Dutch Team that will help us in aviation component. Very effective activities are planned in these two directions in order to strengthen the Georgian Armed Forces and with the assistant of our partners I am sure this reformation process will be even more successful and lead us to substantial results,” Defence Minister said.
Tinatin Khidasheli expressed gratitude for the assistance and support of the Kingdom of Netherlands in defence sphere. The sides also discussed the existing security environment in Georgia and in the region. Deputy Chief of Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces Colonel Omar Begoidze attended the meeting.
